Lidija was born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia and received her first violin lesson at age five. As a young violinist Lidija won five first prizes at national level competitions. She studied parallel at the Academy of Music in Novi Sad (BM) and at the Academia Internazionale di Musica a Portogruaro - Venice , Italy (Performance DIPLOMA), Richard-Strauss-Konservatorium, Munich (Post Diploma) and the Boston Conservatory of Music (Perfomance Diploma). L. Peno’s teachers include Pavel Vernikov, Ilja Grubert, Martin Albrecht Rohde, G. Jislin, Lynn Cheng,Tamara Smirnova. Lidija has worked with trio Tchaikovsky and has performed solo with the Belgrade Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Dubrovnik Philharmonic and La Picolla Symfonia di Vernezia. She has also been a member of the Gaertnerplatz Theater Orchestra in Munich and performed solo or with various large and chamber ensembles in Belgrade, Dubrovnik, Moscow, Venice, Milano, Munich, Paris, New York, Tokio, Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne, Chicago, San Francisco, Bordeaux, Madrid, Bilbao and others. L. Peno has also recorded for the Yugoslavian National Radio, Rai Uno, Italy, ARD and ZDF - Germany, Paris – CD recording.
Marla has served as interim concertmaster and assistant concertmaster of the Plymouth Philharmonic, principal second violin of the Simon Sinfonietta, and performs with numerous other orchestras in the New England area, including the Portland Symphony and Boston Classical Orchestra. She is a former member of the Cantabile Quartet and the Dimitry Quartet. Originally from Long Island, NY, she began studying for a career in Biology at Brown University, subsequently leaving to study violin with Roger Shermont at Boston University, where she received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in music. Principal teachers include Bayla Keyes, Peter Zazofsky and Lucia Lin. In addition to appearing as a clinician and adjudicator in numerous states around the country, Marla has taught for the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras for many years, is a faculty member of the Lexington Music School and maintains a private studio.
J.J. studied at Boston University (Master M. 1997) with BSO Principal violist Steven Ansell and at the North Carolina School of the Arts (Bachelors Mus 1994) with Sally Peck. While at Boston University, she studied chamber music with members of the Muir String Quartet as well as legendary violists Eugene Lehner and Raphael Hillyer. During her studies at the NC School of the Arts, her quartet was chosen to attend the Winter Institute for String Quartets at the University of Delaware. At the institute, she was coached by the Mendelssohn String Quartet and performed in master classes coached by Bonnie Hampton and Robert Mann. She has toured Europe as a chamber musician with the Schleswig Holstein Music Festival and the International Music Program of NCSA. For several summers, she performed with the North Shore chamber group Music at Eden’s Edge. By audition, she was selected to participate in the Spoleto Festival Orchestra, National Orchestral Institute, and Schleswig Holstein Music Festivals. J.J. is currently a member of the Orchestra of Indian Hill and maintains a teaching studio in Lexington.
Chelmsford resident and Dynamic Strings founder Shay Rudolph is a freelance cellist in the Boston area, drawing from her extensive network of talented colleagues to bring classical chamber music to North Chelmsford.
